This is a great first vlog. Something to think about when developing future vlogs is your confidence when speaking in front of the camera. Also, please expand on how your chosen practitioner works with their dancers?
ReplyDeleteAfter watching a video clip of Crystal Pite working with the Royal Ballet I understand that she is an incredibly hands on choreographer. She works in and out of the dancers’ space, almost to gather as many different angles and perspectives as she can. Because of this, she notices the finest nuances of every movement. She uses similes and metaphors to illustrate how movements should be approached. It is captivating to watch how she explores the dancers’ limits and sees how far they can push themselves. She gets excited with movement being expressed successfully; you can particularly hear this in the intonation of her voice. The joy of choreographing also seems to make her breathless as she demonstrates and experiments with movement.

Reflecting back, was there anything you felt you wanted to find out about your chosen choreographer?
ReplyDeleteAfter watching Crystal Pite’s work, I wondered how she gets ideas for her pieces. Do they come with ease? Or is it difficult finding potential topics to create a piece?
DeleteTo answer my questions, I found a 2016 interview with the International Festival Portrait. I was very surprised to hear her say; “I am always convinced I will never have a good idea.” However, “I tend to stumble on something that I feel is intriguing or is challenging or sometimes even terrifying.” It was fascinating to understand that all her pieces come from a place of pure passion, nothing is created half-heartedly.
